Week 2 Homework Notes and Videos
NOTE: All notes for Week 1 Remain mostly the same [This is linked to Week 1 if you need it]. One exception is that you can bring Sit on The Dog to outside in your yard. If she does well there, you can bring her to a low key place where an occasional LEASHED ONLY dog might walk by (and from a distance of 50 to 100 feet).
Obedience Exercises:
- Molded Sits and Sit Stay Rotation 15 minutes Goal: For sit stays the goal is to build up to one minute (remember this is a goal that is not necessarily needed to be 1 minute for next week, keep at four in a row of the previous time until it is easy). For molded sits, the only goal is to stick with her until she feels like she is softening on your touch and not bracing (I often say it the dog should feel like they are melting under your touch). NOTE: WE ARE NOT DOING THE REPS THE INSTRUCTIONS SAY FOR THESE INDIVIDUALLY.
- Send to Place 5 plus minutes Goal: To get your dog to step on themselves for times in a row for 3 sets in 5 minutes (remember this is just a goal it may take you longer when you start). So for this week we can add more distance from the place, but the most important part is to be sure she will walk to it and go from close up for 3 sets of 4 in a row.
- Circle Place 5 minutes or less (when your are just working up to the minute maybe start at 15 reps once you get closer to 30 seconds you could work 5 minutes and then at 1 minute you are just working at getting to 4 1 min circle places in a row) Goal: To be able to perform 4 circle places in a row for one minute in 1 minute at more of a distance like to the end of the six foot leash eventually (remember that is just a goal, it may take you longer when you start).
- Long Place 5 minutes only (no need to reset if she gets off) Goal: To have her get used to staying on the place for 5 minutes to start with. The goal is she stays on without needing to be blocked or corrected for the entire five minutes. (I managed to NOT video this for Luna in that I turned the camera off instead of on, so I am substituting another dog video).
